Setting up iMesh isn't a problem, although the
installation process is convoluted because of
the number of registration fields you have to
fill in. The program makes its money through adverts,
so there's always an advertising bar along the
bottom.
All types of files are shared by iMesh users including
videos, pictures, audio and programs. In our music
search tests, iMesh performed poorly on the more
obscure bands and wasn't that impressive on the
mainstream material either.
The real problem with iMesh, however, is that
we had great trouble connecting to and downloading
songs. In the majority of our tests, the software
failed to connect completely, which was extremely
disheartening. The program also locked up Windows
several times and kept spawning pop-up ad windows,
both of which are unnecessarily nasty.
This is a shame as it's a well-featured program
with a reasonable interface. It has the ability
to resume downloads, can preview tunes as they
are downloading and there's a built-in media player.
However, it really can't be recommended due to
the poor search results and very poor download
performance, not to mention the instability.
